Fact Check: The 9th Connecticut POWs may have ended up in Andersonville, but the POW camp at Andersonville did not open for business until the spring of 1864. According to Lonnie Speer's "Portals to Hell", the first POWs arrived at Camp Sumter (Andersonville) on 25 FEB 1864 before the stockade was complete. The first large shipment from Richmond arrived in late March.
