Kansas City Times--1/12/1889--The Funeral of Edward L. Greenwood Will Take Place Saturday

The funeral of Edward L. Greenwood, ex-police clerk, who died early yesterday morning from injuries received in a fall from the L-road structure, will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from Matthews undertaking place on Grand Avenue. It will occur under the auspices of the Brooklyn lodge Knights of Pythias, of which Greenwood was a member. The injured man passed away very quietly at about 1:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the city hospital in the presence of the hospital officials and a few friends.

Edward L. Greenwood was born in Lafayette Co, Missouri, near Lexington, Sept 5, 1846. When war broke out his family, who were strong Southern sympathizers, were driven from home, and Greenwood, who was then 15 years of age, was placed in the care of Dr. Ambrose of Lafayette, a friend of the family. When 16 years of age, Greenwood left Dr. Ambrose and entered the Confederate service under General Shelby. He remained in the war until its close and was for a time, a guerrilla under Captain Poole. He was in the raid at Centralia. In 1879, Greenwood's family removed to Holden, and in 1880, Greenwood came to Kansas City. He was appointed clerk of the police court which position he held until his books were investigated in the spring of 1887 and were found to be about $2,800 short. It was another case of Captain Ditsen. Greenwood was generous to a fault, and he used the money, which he no doubt thought, as he often said, he would be able to repay. The deceased was a single man. He has a mother and a sister living in the Schutte building on Grand Avenue, a brother William who lives in Howard County, and Daniel who is owner of a coal yard near Eighteenth and Flora Avenue.

My note from KC Star-1/14/1889: Edward L. Greenwood was buried in Union Cemetery

Arizona Republican (Phoenix, AZ)--6/15/1899--Letter from Frank James

Mr. D. F. Greenwood yesterday received a letter from Frank James inclosing a printed account of Captain "Dave" Poole and asking for additional information regarding the last moments of his old comrade in arms. The account included a picture of Captain Poole which was made from the only photograph he had ever had taken. Mr. Greenwood saw him sit for it at the request of their leader Quantrill who had arranged with a photographer for pictures of all his leading men.
