Re: 17th Louisiana Infantry
In Response To: 17th Louisiana Infantry ()

Hello George, et al:

I hope this is not too late. This concerns: S. S. Heard, Col. 17th Louisiana Infantry.

We thought for some that this Heard might belong to our Heard family from Claiborne, Union & Lincoln Parishes.
My research shows that he most likey IS NOT ours.

S. S. Heard is buried in the Raymond Cemetery in Hinds Co., MS. He died on 22 Jun 1889. See Find-A-Grave.

His cemetery stone shows: " Gen'l. S. S. Heard." I can find no record that he was ever promoted to general.

I believe his complete name most likely was: " Samuel Smith Heard."

Hope this helps !!

Regards ........... Rocky Wright in Louisiana
