He enrolled as 1st Corporal on Oct. 12, 1861, at Camp Moore, LA (Tangipahoa, LA), for 12 months service in Capt. Maddox' Company (Claiborne Invincibles).
(On Jan. 16, 1864, this regiment became part of the 22nd Consolidated LA Infantry.)

Absent on March-April 1862 roll, and noted as missing after Battle of Shiloh.
Regiment was re-organized under the Conscript Act on May 23, 1862, at which time it was noted that he was "over thirty-five years of age."
July-August 1862 roll shows him still missing after Battle of Shiloh and now a private. Notes again that he was over 35 years of age.
Sept.-Oct. 1862 roll shows him still missing after Shiloh.
