My great-great grandfather was Daniel M. Payne, who served in the 17th Louisiana Infantry, possibly company C and/or D. I have a picture of him in tattered uniform, fully armed. Also, I have an original document with his signature stating he was captured by Union forces, etc... I may have other documents as well - I have not carefully gone through all of the documents I received from a family member who recently passed on.
