Great work on determining the path of Price's retreat through Indian Territory. This very well may be the point of the highest number of troops in Indian Territory. I agree that Price's numbers were exaggerated but I also think the number of Confederates at the time of Honey Springs and Perryville are exaggerated... so even if one argued that Price had less than 6,700 men, it was probably still the highest at one time. Another time that came to mind when there were a large number of troops in I.T. was during the 1st Indian Expedition, June-Aug 1862. Weer had 5 white regiments, 1 1/2 Indian Home Guard regiments, and two artillery batteries. The Confederates had Watie and Drew's Cherokee regiments, the Creek regiments (or regiment and battalion), the 1st Choctaw & Chickasaw Mtd Rifles (reorganizing), the Seminole and Chickasaw battalions, some Texas cavalry, some troops under Coffee, and of course Clarkson's Battalion. Without looking up specifics, this probably ranks up there with others -- maybe a close 4th. It occurs to me that after Drew's regiment defected, there were even more troops -- maybe another 500 Pins that joined the IHG when all but 80 of Drew's regiment did.
