Another map showing the Evansville-Flint court house road, which then connected (around the headwaters of Sallisaw Creek) with the military road from Ft. Smith going on west to Ft. Gibson is shown on an 1861 map given at the following website:

This "1861" map shows the primary "military road" from Ft. Smith to Ft. Gibson as going through Evansville, while another more direct (but secondary mountainous) road is shown going directly from Ft. Smith to Ft. Gibson. A third road from Ft. Smith (and Van Buren) is shown going along the north side of the Arkansas River to North Fork Town, which (I think) was also known as the "Whiskey Road."
