I actually enjoy war, it is in my blood. I had the most family serve in the Civil War. The Prouty's alone had around 200. Most fought for the Union and represented almost every state, except three. Some Prouty's fought for the South, Georgia and Texas. The Whitmer's and Pellerin's mostly fought for the South, Virginia and Louisiana.

This family (Prouty's) fought off Native Americans in Eastern Massachusetts in 1668-1669, a 16 year old boy, name Richard Proute. He was the first "seed" to arrive on this soil. He had 26 kids and by the time of his death, he owned huge amounts of land in Massachusetts. They fought in the French and Indian wars, American Revolution, War of 1812, never found anyone in the Mexican War. By the time of the Civil War, the Proute-Prouty's had been here for 194 years. Hence why so many fought. The families spread out more and more west as new land opened up.

Very blessed to have a great and fantastic genealogy book and the genealogy room at the LOC (State adjutant records) were both a huge help.

I hope all is well with your family and I hope for a safe return from Afghanistan as well. I have been out on the sidelines for the last six months. I feel like a caged Tiger, ready to bring total destruction. If I had my way, this war would have been over in a day.
