My wife is currently in Iraq and I will be in Afghanistan with my oldest son. I can not leave him alone here, as he still a minor. When I was out for four months with my right foot in a cast, I had to pull him out of his military school before it started. I could not drive nor walk, so my oldest son has been a huge help. Robert is very excited to go overseas, he will not see any action, but will remain in the camp. He will never be more then five feet from me at any given time. His official title will be "Aide-de-Camp". My wife will be leaving Iraq from some construction project she is supervising and she will fly out to Afghanistan and then pick Robert up in December/January.
I think this will be the first time, since the Civil War of having a family together on a battlefield. My younger three sons are in military school. I am very confident that my camp is safe, otherwise I would not bring my oldest son with me. It will boost morale among my troops seeing that I am back and my oldest son is with me. As far as Robert, he will gain a unique perspective on war as he will be an officer in a few years.
Just promise to never end this project, get the first edition out and what you find turn that into the second edition, etc.
Have a good morning,
Shawn
