- Echoes of Glory - Arms & Equipment of the Confederacy, (Flags section) Page 254-255

It has the painting of Mahones counter attack at the Crater... Pic of Sgt William Smith, color bearer of the 12th Va in uniform holding a battle flag (not the same one). Also modern pic of the broken flag staff with this 12 star BF, (WD-333 clearly visible stenciled on the facing upper left border) Stated on that page to have been the replacement they received to replace the one severely shot up at the Crater. This doesn't correlate with other known accounts and descriptions of their flags. Further substantiated by the first posting in this thread. MOC has this RD 12 star BF (WD-333) currently listed as associated/belonging to the 12th NC, captured at Sailors Creek (12th Va wasn't present nor engaged there). This is one of the several mystery late war RD 12 star flags I researched on last year.

Also noted a reenactment group that portrays the 12th Va carrying a reproduction copy of this same 12 star BF. They apparently used this same description and account in the EOG as confirming evidence of solid historical fact. I have not found any other reference that reportedly associates these items with the 12th Va.
