I fail to see how "stitch counting" takes any fun out of anything. You are trying to correctly portray certain historical times so why not be accurate? I have reenacted before and the unit that In fell in with had their correct standards in weapons, uniforms, etc. for certain time frames they portrayed in the war.

Want to really see some accuracy? Try looking at the guys in Europe who reenact ancient Greeks and Romans. I have, and their stuff costs loads more than Civil War stuff does and yet they go for total accuracy and that also depends on the periods of time they are doing (since armor, helmets, etc. evolved over time) as did tactics.

But the easiest thing for unit flags is simple research. I have helped lots of units with that over the years and am always happy to do so as are everyone else on this list. ANV flags at Shiloh? If you do not want to even try to carry the right flag then drop the flag and fall in with a unit that does for that event. Bill Rambo, who has commanded loads of CS units at events large and small, has asked me many times for flags help, and he is no slouch there either, to make sure that the flags for certain events are right. I have never turned him down for that help.

That's the only point I am trying to make here.
