I think all Greg is saying is that some units do a better job than others when it comes to flag research. For example, the unit I am with belongs to the Trans Mississippi Volunteer Infantry Battalion. Most of the units we portray on a regular basis are Trans Miss. units (mine is the 15th Texas), but this past year when we went to Gettysburg, we were portraying ANV units. For the Devil's Den fight we were Hood's Brigade. I sewed us a large Texas Flag w/ a black border based on information obtained from Mayberry's book "Texas Flags". During the Battle for Culp's Hill, we were Hays' Brigade so we carried a 2nd Bunting based on research I found w/ the Museum of the Confederacy. They hold a 2nd Bunting attributed to the 5th LA captured at Spotsylvania (after Gettysburg) so that's possibly what they carried at Gettysburg. Not all of my pards hold the same interest in flags that I do, but they do appreciate the research and effort I put out to add to our authenticity and I appreciate the research and effort they put into keeping our impressions authentic. It all works together to keep history alive for the modern public. As a side note, when we galvanize, we portray the 75th New York, I have constructed us a Tiffany style National Color letered for the 75th and am working on a Tiffany style New York state seal Regimental, as well.
