Your post shows how some units do things which is great. There is no substitute for proper research and there's lots of resources available for that. Posting questions here helps and everyone will be more than helpful towards getting the right flag for a unit for a given scenario so long as that knowledge is known.

Good to hear about the 17th/23rd Tennessee and the use of their Hardee battle flag (lost in June at Petersburg along with the Hardee flag of the 25th/44th Tennessee) being used at the scenario. That comes from good research.

Many of these flags can be sewn easily enough if the unit has someone with good skills - Hardee flags are easy! Again, folks here are more than helpful.

The Federals have it much tougher with those 6 by 6 1/2 foot silk flags which are painted! Those cost a lot of money.
