Re: Confederate Command Uniforms

On the 18 Sept. 62, this company [C, 31st Tenn.] took up the line of march thru Cumberland Gap to Kentucky and marched day after day, sometimes more than half the night and often without food or water, many of them barefooted and until the 10th Nov. through dust 4 inches deep. After marching beyond the Kentucky river we returned by the same route nearly and kept up till the 30 Oct. marching a distance of 700 miles in 42 days, resting in the meantime 5 days. On the 26 Oct. a heavy snow fell on us on the mountains where we were without tents, with but thin clothes and worn out shoes, many having no shoes at all. (M268 Roll 275)
