I've HEARD of one or two accounts of the carrying of extra cylinders, but was looking for some documentation.
I also believe alot of what we see equipment wise on the modern battle fields was not carried during the war, due to the fact that now it only has to go as far as the vehicle after the weekend, where our ancestors carried everything (for the most part) on his back, or on his horse, if cavalry.
I primarily study the AoT and cavalry in SW Mississippi, due to those being where my ancestors served. Just thinking maybe it was used more "outside" my field of study.
