Re: Mitchell's Regiment - 8th Missouri Reg't

Mitchell's 8th MO Infty was in the battles of Prairie Grove (AR), Pleasant Hill (LA), and Jenkins' Ferry (AR). They were part of the garrison at Ft. Pleasants, AR (near Pine Bluff) in the spring and summer of 1863 and manned portions of the Confederate fortifications north of Little Rock in the late summer and early autumn of 1863, prior to the Federal capture of that city on Sept. 10, 1863. During the Red River campaign of 1864 they were part of Brig. Gen. John B. Clark's Missouri Brigade, Mosby M. Parsons' Missouri Division. Mitchell assumed command of the brigade when Clark was assigned command of a cavalry brigade during Price's 1864 Missouri Raid. Mitchell's brigade garrisoned Washington, AR f from August 1864 until March 1865, when the brigade was ordered to Shreveport, LA. The 8th MO surrendered their arms in Shreveport on June 5, 1865 then boarded steam packets that afternoon for Alexandria, LA where they received their paroles.
