Published in 1999 by the Camp Pope Bookshop, Iowa City, Iowa. Soft-cover, 431 pages. $20.00, plus shipping. "Includes an annotated roster. Capt Pinnell's letters from July 30, 1862 through June 21, 1865. A detailed account of soldier life in the Trans-Mississippi that is as good as it gets. While the diary does not spend too much time on battles, it covers just about every aspect of soldiering, including uniforms, arms, rations, pay, etc."

8th (Mitchell's) Missouri Infantry Rgt.

Col. Charles S. Mitchell, LtCol. John W. Smizer, Maj. J. W. Hill

The regiment was organized in January 1863 from Mitchell's 7th and Frazier's Mo. Infantry Bns. It was assigned to D. M. Frost's, Drayton's, J. B. Clark's, C. S. Mitchell's brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department.

It lost 10 killed and 66 wounded at Pleasant Hill and seven killed and 22 wounded at Jenkins' Ferry. It was included in the June 2, 1865 surrender of the Trans-Mississippi Department.
