Re: Mitchell's Regiment - 8th Missouri Reg't

Your welcome

I've spent quite a lot of time researching Fort Pleasent, originally called Fort Weightman according to Capt. Pindall's diary. Frost's Brigade was not the sole military Unit in and out of this fort and that has created some difficulties in identifications. Fort Pleasent was built to take the place of Fort Hindman which was lost at Battle of Arkansas Post, Jan 11, 1863.

If you haven't aquired a copy of Ethan Pindall's diray "Serving With Honor" I would strongly suggest you do If you are researching Mitchell's 8th Missouri. Their job during their time at Fort Pleasent was not to just set around as Garrison in the Fort and wait for the Yankee's to show up. They along with the 9th Missouri and Ruffner's battery would make excursions down to the Mississippi River and disrupt the Union Supply boat going down to Vicksburg.

Quite a few men of the 8th died at Fort Pleasent of disease.
