John W. Franse/Frantz, Private, Company I, Hunter’s Regiment Missouri Infantry, enlisted August 1, 1862 at Van Buren by Capt. Bradley for 3 years, recorded with the 8th Missouri Infantry on the August 31, 1863 muster roll and listed as captured by Major General B. M. Prentiss in battle at Helena, July 4, 1863, now at Alton, Ill., died of Amenia February 6/7, 1864, recorded in Co. I, 8th Regiment among the missing of the 4th Brigade Missouri Vols. at the battle of Helena, Ark. (July 4, 1863), subsequently recorded on the rolls of the 11th Missouri Infantry

Hunter’s Battalion Missouri Infantry, consisting of seven companies had previously served as cavalry, was organized August 31, 1862. The battalion was increased by the addition of other companies and organized as the 2nd; also known as Hunter’s Regiment Missouri Infantry September 15, 1862; it’s designation was changed to the 8th Regiment Missouri Infantry and finally to the 11th Regiment Missouri Infantry
