Re: Mitchell's Regiment - 8th Missouri Reg't

Correct. Mitchell's 8th Missouri Infantry of D.M. Frost's Brigade is often confused in records with Burn's 8th Missouri Infantry of M.M. Parson's Brigade.

D.M. Frost's Brigade consisting of Mitchell's 8th Missouri and John Clark's 9th Missouri Infantry, Musser's Battalion, Von Phatt's, and Ruffner's Battery's and later Hardy's regiment 19th/24th Arkansas Infantry consolidated, were assigned to the defence of the Lower Arkansas River and Fort Pleasent at Pine Bluff, from February until August of 1863. In late July 1863 they were ordered to the defences of Little Rock and remained there until the fall of Little Rock.

When the Missouri regiments were renumbered Mitchell's regiment retained the designation as the 8th Missouri Infantry, while the units of Parson's Brigade were given new designations.
