Let me begin with a big thank you! I did not know that he was promoted to 4th Corporal. Any guess as to why he might have been assigned “permanently” to the Pioneer Battalion only to return to the 8th.? He was with Post Quartermaster and here had the rank of private when with the 8th he was promoted to 4th Corporal.
When receiving money for rations he signed with an “X”. I wonder, if he was incapacitated somewhat because I have some other documents indicating that he could read and right.
Have you or anyone else read the diary of John Price. I understand that it covers some of the activities of the 8th from Boling Green, Ky. I would like to read it, but have not found the document of line. I’m working on the genealogy of my gg grandfather, Abner Smith. I would like to include as much narrative information as possible about lives and times of him and others. I think, that this would make it more meaningful to my family.
