We live 3 miles west of Austin on Ed Haymes Road (Main Street out of Austin). Years ago someone told us that our driveway was part of the old Lonoke - El Paso Stagecoach road.
I do not know if this might have been part of the Butterfield route or if there was a different stagecoach line but I have read something about an El Paso stagecoach line that once ran through Hot Springs.
There is evidence of a dirt road having been here many years ago and the roadbed was clearly reinforced with rock on one side of it.
Would anyone happen to know anything about this?
We have lived here over 20 years and we are researching old Arkansas Railroads. We are thinking about extending our research into stagecoach lines but we don't know where to start as there seems to be very little information available (that we have found so far).
