The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Joseph Columbus Ray

I just discovered this message board through Cyndi's list. I have a great-gradnfather who was supposed to have fought in the civil war and his name was Joseph Columbus Ray. He was married to Nancy Cordelia Carter.
I do not have any other particulars about them such as date of birth, death, etc. I do know that they had a daughter named Lottie Cordelia Ray, later Bravo. She was my Grandmother, but she died when I was five months old. Grandma Lottie had a delayed certificate of birth that she filed in 1965. She states she was born in McNairy County, Pocahontas, Tennessee. However, her graduation certificate and her teaching license
show that she was a student and a teacher(1924) in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and when I looked at the map, there is a Pocahontas, Arkansas just north of Jonesboro. Grandma always told my dad that she was raised in the mountains and had about 9 brothers and sisters. I am very curious about her and would love to be able to give more info to my father. I am hoping that by following my gg's records, I might learn some more information. Thanks for any help you can give! Tabitha Rogers
