Dr. Carter-Forest's Scout

Among the blue hills around Anniston there are many winding drives and mountain trails leading to secluded spots which delight all lovers of the woods. Weaver Cave six miles from Anniston is reached by a winding and straggling road that turns sharply from the brick road leading to Camp McClellan. In this cave during the Civil War cannon balls were made for the Confederacy. At a recent reunion of the Alabama Confederate Veterans in Anniston, Dr. Carter, General Forrest's Indian scout, then one hundred and one years old, told of the relics which his tribe hid in the cave when this territory was their own hunting ground. Part of the cave has never been explored and it holds a strong fascination for the lovers of adventure.
