As usual, nice shooting, Wayne!

Regarding the "Smith's Company" question, that was indeed Company "G" of Russell's 4th Alabama Cavalry from Madison and Jackson Counties. Captain Henry F. Smith also appears on War Department registers as Captain of Company "G", 15th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion. The four companies that belonged to Forrest's original regiment served combined with this battalion to form Russell's 4th Cavalry. Company officers for Smith's company were elected at Larkinsville, Alabama, September 7, 1862, mustering at Taylor’s Store as Company “G”, 15th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion.

Taylor's Store may be just barely over the line into Tennessee, which may account for the War Department assigning a Tennessee designation to this battalion.
