Well, no I do not have the service record. All I have is what came from family records. Here is exactly the way I read it in the family records:

William Parks Kirby
born in Jackson County, Alabama on 6/2/1836. He faught in the war between the states with Capt. Hurt's Co., CSA. He was killed 7/12/1863 at Williamsport, MD.

That's all I have. Ken Jones said, "There is a William P. Kirby in Hardaway's (Hurt's) Battery, Alabama light Artillery. Commanding was Capt. Robert Hardaway or Capt. William Hurt."

Does that help you any? I'm not too familiar with Battery's or Artilleries. Do they have unit numbers like "4th", etc.?
