There are at least a couple of possibilities. Alabama Confederate service records on microfilm reel 503 include records of Captain Hert's Company and Captain Hunt's Company (militia). Your suggestion about Hurt's Battery is also reasonable. My father (who was an artillerymen in WWII) had a gr-grandfather from Russell County AL who surrendered with this battery at Appomattox.
Do I understand that your have the service record, and it references this company? If so, this matter could be cleared up quickly.
