Alan PittsAlabama City GuardWed Feb 7 09:58:48 2001 One of my many unfinished projects involves a survey of all the miscellaneous records on reels 505-508 of the Alabama microfilm. That's where I first learned of Lowe's Cavalry which we discussed earlier. Did you come across "Alabama City Guard" there or somewhere else? I'd like to title each unit by their official name, and include the more common aliases in the description. That's why I ask. I'd also like to have a specific date for unit formation, and another muster roll might answer that question.By the way, this unit had a confusing chain of command. For day-to-day assignments, it appears the post commander -- Major Chambers and later Lt.Col. Rosser -- was responsible. For deployment at a particular post, it appears the commander of the Department of the Gulf had that authority. It also appears that Major Walthall at Talladega had the ability to assign or recall officers to this command. When Lockett died, he sent notification to General Cooper at Richmond, also saying that $100 in personal effects had been forwarded to Lockett's widow.
