Alan J. PittsAlabama City GuardWed Feb 7 12:16:14 2001 I like your idea. If I hadn't remembered Swanson's two companies at Montgomery it wouldn't make much sense. However, I believe they were deployed to the capitol from Camp Watts (Camp of Instruction No. 1) about the same time as Lockett went to Selma from Camp Buckner (Camp of Instruction No. 2). Lt. King wrote a letter on file with his records requesting permission to form a second company, which evidently was not approved. Also, ADAH has a roll of Otey's Company indexed with Lockett's and Swanson's. Perhaps it's another provost guard unit. The only other facts I can relate to provost guards stationed in Alabama concern the Mobile City Battalion, AKA 1st Mobile Regiment. This unit was stated to be employed for many of the same duties as Lockett's. In addition, I would expect the same to have been true for the cadet battalion at Tuscaloosa. Of course Freeman's company went to Salisbury NC and was part of a provost battalion there.
