I'd hoped someone who knew Franklin County would respond; thw Union Springs location is a mystery to me as well.

However, notes on original muster rolls specify distances from the point of enlistment to the point of muster (Union Springs). I've not pursued this little exercise, but geometry says we can identify an unknown point if the distances from two or more other points are known.

Union Springs was probably the location of a church, church camp ground, or militia camp ground rather than a town or community, which may explain why it's not on a map.
