original rolls

According to the microfilm entries, five original rolls are available: "A", "B", "E", "H" and "K".

I have three things available on the 5th Cavalry that may interest you. First, I have enlistments on a spreadsheet which allows me to sort and select. I can select all the enlistments at Littleville, for instance.

Second, I have matched service records to the census for soldiers from Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston, Fayette, Marion, Franklin, and Lawrence. I am finishing a second pass through Fayette and will make a second pass through Lawrence before going on to Morgan County.

Third, I have transcribed all the 1907 census entries of veterans who claimed to have been members of the 5th Ala. Cav. It's somewhat confusing because of the transfers Roddey made between the 5th & 10th Ala. Cav. in October of 1864. Many of them are men from the 10th Cavalry who surrendered with the 5th Cav.

All these company transfers remain a mystery to me. For instance, we know that Powell's Co. "A" went to the 10th Cavalry (Powell's Battalion) in September 1863, but I've no idea what company replaced it. Most members of new Co. "A" 5th Cav. are clearly from Franklin County, but I don't know the captain's name. Any information on this?
