Robert Seay

I am researching the family of Robert Seay and Mary Francis Melton who married in Fluvanna Co. 1836 then moved to Campbell Co., near Lynchburg, during the 1850's. In a post on the Seay GenForum (No. 1826), a fellow researcher states that he has a Bible showing Robert Seay killed at Malvern Hill in 1862. Complicating matters is the fact that this couple also had a son named Robert but, according to local marriage records, he survived the war. Although I have not proven the service records of either, both father and son would have been of eligible age to serve. It appears that two other sons of the elder Robert Seay, Abraham and Peter, along with brothers, Daniel and Isaac, did serve in units recruited in Lynchburg.

I have found nothing that I could prove with regard to either Robert Seay in the Regimental History series that I have checked into. Rosters in the state library, which I am not able to access on-line, show a couple of possibilities but I have not been able to check into them yet. I did check the "Lynchburg Muster Roll" which was prepared long after the war and it lists Robert Seay as having served in Moorman's Battery. The Regimental History on that unit states that they suffered only five wounded men at Malvern Hill and does not include Robert Seay.

Can anybody out there help with this?

Also, where would the Confederate dead at Malvern Hill most likely have been buried?
