Re: Fort Gregg - The Confederate Alamo

Thank you George.
Thus - Archelaus Kirkland Jones, carried in the Confederate Records as Archibald Kirkland Jones, as the Senior Captain on the Field was in Command of the 12th Missisisppi at Fort Gregg.
Did Colonel J H Duncan survive. I am uncertain.. Too many J H Duncans around. I think he was from Port Gibson, as as Captain Jones, and I think I have seen something about in in the Newspaper in about 1869.
Google up John Holt Duncan FaG Memorial # 10706705, also has a Port Gibson connection and a very interesting fellow, but he obviosly not the Colonel we are looking for.
I read some where that both the 12th and 16th Regiments at this time consisted of approx 75 men each. This would be 150 or so Mississippians in Fort Gregg, and this was about one half of them I think. Sam P
