•Note:
At the breaking out of the War Between the States, John Tayloe
Perrin was a young and successful planter in his native county.
Virginia having cast her lot with the South, he enlisted in the
Confederate army, and was active in organizing the Twenty Sixth
Virginia Regiment of Infantry, which was soon made a part of Wise's
Brigade. He was elected captain of one of its companies. He served
with distinction in Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida with his
command. During 1864, in a battle near Petersburg, he was disabled by
a serious wound, which rendered him lame for life
.
