I would be interested in reading a few "war stories" that relate to the 1861 G,H & H Railroad depot and/or the Battle of Galveston action.

Thanks to you who have provided excellent references. I have studied all in some detail since.

The Galveston, Houston & Henderson (not Harrisburg) railroad bridge and final rail connection from Virginia Point into Galveston were not competed until 1860. Thus, the railroad depot and its terminal facilities for passengers and freight, located just west of the intersection of 33rd Street and Market (Avenue D), were probably very basic structures until after the war. There just wasn't time nor funds to better locate the depot before the war started. It appears that the military railroad extension built during the war along Market (Avenue D) to the eastern coastal-defense artillery batteries, after the war, were soon converted into horse-drawn "street railways" as the 1871 Birdseye map of Galveston depicts.
