The 1861 Rail Depot in Galveston

Thanks Bill for the useful info.

Check the Google Earth "untitled" photo (by Jefkes) of the G, H, & H Railroad "Depot" at Avenue D @ 29th Street in Galveston. This location for the Depot is consistent with that shown in the OR Atlas you mentioned, as I have scaled to many known sites in old Galveston (1861-65), including many block counts. The old railroad ran on Avenue D, not north where most of it is located today, running up toward the Strand, or Avenue B. Harborside Drive (TX 275) today was old Avenue A, most of which was barely but in the bay during the Civil War. Kuhn's Wharf had the only pier connection to land that was actually north of Avenue A (modern Harborside Drive), and it was only a few feet.

Based on the latest Atlas info and photo additions, I continue to conclude that the old G, H & H depot was not at the Railroad Museum, which I suppose many folks look at with awe at the west end of the Strand in Galveston. The Railroad Museum surely won't be the one I photograph the next time I am in Galveston.
