Many of these old soldiers on both sides were just passed from one town or even one state to another and just labeled as insane, given a meal and moved on. One soldier was placed on a train somewhere on the east coast with a note pinned on his coat that read Michigan. He was placed on one train after another and finally left at the train depot in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Some of these old vets would look up one of their old officers for a meal and a little comfort. Help must have been slow coming for a lot of this lost generation of men and long before the term Post Traumatic Disorder.
