Echoes of War - Post Traumatic Civil War

I recently watched the movie Echoes of War (2015) starring James Badge Dale. In brief, a Civil War veteran returns home in Texas to face post war issues. He takes matters into his own hands when neighboring ranchers steal animals from his family's traps and causes devastating conflict between his family and the brutish cattle rancher harassing them. The Confederate army had taken hundreds of cattle from the rancher.

Although the war ended, the human struggles continue such as starvation and proper medical care. But, most of all, it seems the post traumatic trauma affected these soldiers deeply. I am sure they had flashbacks, nightmares and behavioral issues as a result of the horrific experiences.

As a (retired) RN Behavioral Health Specialist, this movie, Echoes of War, really moved me and made me think. I can’t imagine the mental anguish the soldiers (on both sides) suffered as well as the families. I am not sure, but I do not think there was any mental health help.

Any views would be appreciated. Regards, Irin
PS: the movie is slow moving mostly – more cerebral.
