I don't know if the following pertains to the time period that you are researching...
The TN Civil War GIS Project cites the Civil War Trails program which places signs at significant sites in the state. In Dickson County there is a sign for Yellow Creek that is located on Old Number One Rd. (on the west side of Yellow Creek and south of Dodd Branch).
