Dr. William W. Mobley who is listed on the 1850 census of Chester District, South Carolina, may be a possibility. He was married to Mary Wylie, daughter of Peter Wylie and Anna Evans Wylie. Mary Wylie Mobley died in 1857 and she is listed at Find-a-Grave.

I could not locate Dr. Mobley on the 1860 census.

Included in the Papers of the Gaston, Strait, Wylie and Baskin Families, South Caroliniana Library, University of South Carolina are "letters of Dr. William W. Mobley, who removed to Mississippi after the death of his wife, Marie Wylie Mobley, in 1857, describing conditions in the old Southwest."

The 1850 census listed his occupation as a physician. The date of the census was August 30, 1850.

Name: W W Mobley
Age: 24
Birth Year: abt 1826
Birthplace: South Carolina
Home in 1850: Chester, South Carolina, USA
Household Members:
Name.....................Age
W W Mobley.............24
Mary Mobley.............23

In Capt. W. W. Mobley's CMSR:

"assigned to South Carolina Conscript service for 60 days, Chester District, November 30, 1864"

He may have asked to be sent to Chester District, South Carolina because that was where he was from.

Just a thought.
