Jian Peine Brung, 1st La Arty

Jian Piene Brung, Co. C, 1 La Arty, CSA, d. Mar 21, 1863 (siege of Vicksburg)
is buried at Soldiers’ Rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, Miss.
He died in the Vicksburg Hospital.

There are soldiers of many nationalities buried at Soldiers’ Rest. I don’t know what nationality this man might be. I want to research him, but I can find no information on him aside from Louisiana’s SCV site at
http://www.lascv.com/files/b.htm
but
nothing in Booth’s index at http://www.lascv.com/b10.html
nor in fold3.

I’ve checked federal census records, immigration, and naturalization, as well as Howell, the funeral home records, graves registration, and pension applications (thinking he might have been married). I find just the same information I’ve given or no information.

Any ideas? I’d really like to add some biographical information on this soldier on the Soldiers’ Rest web site.

Many citizens were here since the early 1800s. I am always impressed that the recent immigrants joined their neighbors in taking up the fight for the Confederacy, rather than just taking up their possessions and moving further west.

TIA, Anna tinyurl.com/soldiers-rest
