Tim, thanks for this information. We'll plan a trip to Nashville/Franklin and visit the cemetery. His being in the 31st makes sense; my gg grandfather, A. J. Hemphill, was also in the 31st Regt. He died of a wound received earlier in the war. Another family member, by marriage, Captain Drane was also in the 31st. The family was from Choctaw Co. near French Camp and Ackerman. If any readers on the board have more info on the 31st, I would appreciate receiving it.

Back to The Battle of Franklin, I just started reading "The Widow of the South", a novel about the life of Carrie McGavock. Her home was Carnton plantation, the site of the Confederate hospital where so many died and of course the site of "her cemetery", to which she was so devoted.
