Re: 5th Mississippi Regt. Co. F (Winston Rifles)

I've been doing some research on my great, great grandfather and all I knew was that he was from Louisville, Mississippi and lost a leg at Spring Hill. I've just found his name in the 5th Mississippi, Company F, Winston Rifles. He was Jonathan James McDaniel, a
private. I've been so pleased to click on some of the links provided here to find out more about where the 5th fought. I've just read a biography of Gen'l Pat Cleburne and was hoping my guy had served under him and got a big smile when I now discovered he had. Thank you so much for the links you provide. I'm truly grateful. Does anybody have any information about the wounded from Spring Hill? I know it's mentioned that on the retreat from Nashville, there were wounded at Columbia so would my guy have been taken there after the battle? A lot of Confederate wounded, about 2,000, I think ended up being left in Franklin, but since he didn't make
it that far, is Columbia the most likely place he'd have been taken? Is it right to presume Confederate wounded were not left at Spring Hill? Would it be likely that he would have been taken then from Columbia toward the Tennessee River or left in Columbia? I hope somebody is still watching over this site as the last posts on this topic appear to be from 2007.
