Over the years, I have gathered information on the men in the company and am interested in anything you can tell me about Private Malone. I am curious about the information on him being injured at Franklin and being paroled in North Carolina. Can you tell me the source of that information? I do not find a surrender record for any Malone in the consolidated 9th Mississippi Infantry Regiment in North Carolina. As a member of Company B, 41st Mississippi, he should have been paroled as a member of Company I of the 9th Mississippi, along with the five other members of the original Company B of the 41st Mississippi who are recorded as being paroled in Greensboro.
I note that in the 1860 census, W. A. Malone lived in the same household as the Coon or Coons family, along with wife Frances and a one year old male (a son?) named William B. Malone. It appears that William S. Coon (some relation to wife Frances?) of that same household joined Company B of the 41st Mississippi Regiment at the same time as A. W. Malone. William Coon deserted on July 3, 1864, was captured by Union troops and died in the Camp Morton, IN prison camp. He is buried at Green Lawn Cemetery Grave # 1477.
There is a nice article written by another member of Company B, George W. Leavell, about the Battle of Franklin. It appears in the old Confederate Veteran Magazine, Volume X, Pages 500-503. This is the only first hand account I have discovered that was written by a member of the company.
