Re: Isaac H. Allen, 13th Mississippi

Hi Tom,

During my looking around I ran acoss a Captain M. Carleton as the commander of "D" Company. I am not sure of the time period he was commander but I think he was from Newton County. It would be nice to have muster rolls. While visiting the Gettysburg Battlefield and standng at the Mississipi Monument, I figured at most the union cannon located at the peach orchard could have fired only one rounds, assuming they were loaded before the long gray line came running across the field. Reloading for a second shot would have been to be done quickly and under fire. If I remember correctly the union cannon at the peach orchard were captured.

Thanks for the information on the location of the field hospital on Marsh Creek. Unfortunately I did not take a strole down Miller Town Road while there to just look around, I should have. A good reason to return to the battlefield. I am going to make the assumption that most of the five or six weeks that the field hospital was in use that it was under union control. I wonder if they did lay the soldiers they could not help along the side of the road? Issac's account of his situation is that he was about one mile from the hospital. I wonder if there were aide stations at that time. It is hard to visualize everything that happend at Gettysburg those three days in July 1863.
