Cindy you may know all of this but FWIW:

Capt. Leroy Davis Roberts was the son of Sydney R Roberts and Margaret Crow Roberts. His mother died in 1848. Sydney Roberts was a slave owner on both the 1850 and 1860 Slave Census rolls in Camden County Missouri. Capt. Roberts' sister, Rebecca Elizabeth Roberts married George Marcus Swink, his obit per Dallas Pioneers

http://www.dallaspioneer.org/files/GM_Swink_obituary_transcribed.pdf

Swink was a slave owner from Camden county as well. His pension application indicates he was originally in the 2nd MO Infantry then moved to CSA Ordnance Dept. with rank of Capt. in Tyler LA then transferred to San Antonio TX. He reputedly served with Parsons as well as Price in 1864.

Capt. Roberts appears to have organized his own company of Cavalry known as Capt L.D. Roberts company of Missouri Volunteer Cavalry about Sept. 1862 out of Company A Winston's Regt. Missouri Infantry. This company later became known as (New) Company I of Burbridge's Regt. MO Cav. or the 4th Regt MO Cav. about Feb 1863 when Brubridge's and Preston's Battalion of MO Cav were merged. Burbridge's battalion had been known prior as Burbridge's Regt. Missouri Partisan Rangers and/or Third Regt., Porter's Brigade.

Confederate Archives, Chapter 1, Vol 109 1/2, page 286 lists him as being elected Captain and commissioned Sept 24, 1862, age 28, native of Roane Co. TN. He was captured Oct 10th, 1864, appears on a roll of prisoners to be transfered from St. Louis MO to Johnson's Island, Sandusky Ohio on March 28th 1865. He also appears on a list arriving Gratiot Prison St.Louis during the 5 days ending March 5, 1865. He subsequently was released on Oath June 14, 1865 from Johnson's Island under General Order 109.

At discharge from Prison he is listed as 6'1", blue eyes, light complexion, dark hair, aged 30.

Capt. Roberts was charged with Assault with Intent to Kill after striking a Private David Merritt with his saber in camp in Pocahontas Ark on May 25, 1863. Merritt was a member of his Company I. Charges were later dropped but Merritt lost the use of one of his hands. Tim Reeves is listed as a witness for the defense.

He apparently paid $21.00 for for John Ulman's coffin and burial at Hot Springs, Arkansas acting as administrator of Mr. Ulman's estate. The receipt is signed by a Clark M Smith of Hot Springs.

He is found in the following 1870 census:
Name: Leroy D Roberts
Age in 1870: 34
Birth Year: abt 1836
Birthplace: Tennessee
Home in 1870: Center, Vernon, Missouri
Gender: Male
Post Office: Nevada
Household Members:
Name Age
Leroy D Roberts 34
Mary J Roberts 24
Calvin Roberts 1

which matches the 1860 census:
Name: L D Roberts
Age: 25
Birth Year: abt 1835
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Tennessee
Home in 1860: Center, Vernon, Missouri
Post Office: Nevada
Family Number: 382
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members:
Name Age
L D Roberts 25
Mary J Roberts 19
John Gunn 19

and the 1850 census:
Name: Leroy Roberts
Age: 16
Birth Year: abt 1834
Birthplace: Tennessee
Home in 1850: District 13, Camden, Missouri, USA
Family Number: 224
Household Members:
Name Age
Sidney Roberts 37
Martha Roberts 30
Leroy Roberts 16
Rebecca Roberts 14
Calvin Roberts 8
Artemus Roberts 6
Thomas Morgan 74

I do not find him in the 1880 census. His son Sydney Calvin Roberts married and lived in Vernon county his entire life and is here in find a grave:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=62016186&ref=acom

Per that listing the maiden name of Capt. Roberts wife was Mary Jane Davis. The 1880 census list Mary J and S Calvin Roberts in Vernon Co. There is a sibling to Calvin, Mary A. listed as being born 1876 which would infer a death date for Capt. Roberts between 1876 and 1880 in Vernon Co, MO.
