Dr. Abbey was a major in the Scott Co Home Guard USRC and has a pension listing with the Hawkins Taylor Commission. I've not got direct access to those records but the commission was formed to review the record of individuals who died in service to see if they qualified for a pension from the federal government. His final resting place may be in those records.

I suspect he ended up back in Scott Co. Cape Girardeau and Commerce would have been the 2 ports on the river for him to be delivered to. Old Lorimer cemetery would be the most likely place in Cape given the time. Other cemeteries of that age that were active would have been in the more southern leaning parts of the county.

I'll do some local digging.
