Dr. Daniel Abbey

Hello,

My 4th great grandfather was Dr. Daniel Abbey of the 29th Missouri volunteers. He died of pneumonia upon the Steamer Von Phul on the Mississippi River on January 28, 1863. I've been desperately looking for years trying to find out where he might be buried. Would they have taken his body back to St. Louis and buried him there somewhere or they wouldn't have thrown him into the River would they? (Might be a dumb question but I know of bodies being thrown into the ocean so I was just wondering). I'm hopeful to find someone that might have knowledge or information about this! Thank you!
