Why the surrender over several days?

I have read in many places that many of the Missouri guerrillas under Quantrill, Poole and Anderson had rode about eighty to one hundred and fifty strong into Lexington, Missouri to surrender in May 1865. But I have found that they surrendered over a span of about six to seven days. Fifteen on one day, four on another, ten on another, examples like that.

Is there a reason for this exactly? I know it would be quite a crowd to surrender all at once. But I wondered why they surrendered over so many days?
