The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Bruce,

Thanks very much for the information concerning McKee's book. I may try to contact the Missouri Historical Society to see if they have this book; if they do, they may be willing to photo-copy the pages I need.

When I first saw the Confederate monument in the Cowan Cemetery back in 1966, it left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Back then, I still lived in my home town of Dexter, Missouri which is about 5 miles south of Bloomfield. This was in the day before the Internet had even been thought of and our small town library was very limited in any books concerning the Civil War. I moved from Dexter in 1968 to Nashville, TN, where I still reside, and with high-speed internet my research capabilities have expanded considerably.

Thanks to you and all who have contributed to this message board, I have amassed more material concerning the Cowan Cemetery monument than I ever imagined that I could. Your helpful insights, suggestions and above all, your knowledge of your subject have been invaluable.

As a closing comment on the story of the Wayne County Seven, I would say it was a tragic incident in a tragic war.

Best wishes to all,
Ed Conner
